Description

CURRENT EXHIBITION Curated White Spaces Curated White Spaces is a solo exhibition of Japanese brush paintings by local artist Isabelle Kawai Vincent. Inspired by the essence of human nature, Isabelle utilises folk stories and mythical creatures, such as dragons, to express the complexities of the human psyche. Working with both the traditional Kodaimoji and Sumi-e styles enables her to lean into the imaginary world to capture the spirit of the subject with simple well practiced brush strokes. Sometimes breaking these traditional rules to fuse Japanese technique with western art influences, creates a unique body of work representative of Isabelle’s unique style as an Australian-Japanese artist.

Curated White Spaces is free to attend and is open daily from 10 February - 24 March 2024. Opening celebration with live painting performance Saturday February 10, 11am - 1pm

Isobelle Kawai Vincent – Sumi-e Painting Workshops

Workshop Description The workshops are for beginners or intermediate and all art materials, including ink stones, ink sticks, brushes and paper, are supplied and imported from Japan. You will learn how to use a Japanese ink stone to make ink with an ink stick and basic traditional brush techniques to create and express shades, three-dimensional form and perspective. These traditional Japanese techniques and processes can be applied to Australian flora, such as bottle brushes, orchids and grasses.

There is a limited supply of mini Japanese scrolls available to purchase at $20 each to present and hang your artwork.

It is recommended to bring an apron or art smock as the ink will stain clothes.
